I have asked this question like 300 instances and no one particular is genuinely giving me any appropriate answers…I bought an older model sony camcorder model quantity dcr-hc15e…i purchased a firewire cable and installed a firewire port to my pc….the camcorder picks up that it is plugged into my computer but when i go to use a system like windows film maker to record the mini DV footage from it says that “there is no gadget connected” Can an individual please inform me why it isnt working…and please prior to you answer dont say “d’uh did you set up the port properly….or….”did you set up the software package that came with the port/camcorder” im not stupid!! Thanks in advance to the non-moronic people who answer my question

I want to use a JVC digital camcorder “digital cybercam’ to upload from footage from mini dv tapes into my computer but the videocamera only has S video going out – can i purchase a cable to convert the S video to firewire so i can upload the footage into my Macbook Pro?

There is no cable that goes from S-vid to Firewire, as far as I know. If your only output option is S-video, you have a couple of options:

- buy a graphics card that has an S-video input (although, since you are running a Mac, this is not extremely probably as they are challenging to upgrade)

- get a new[er] / various camcorder that has standard Firewire outputs (I’ve witnessed really few gadgets that Don’t come with firewire how a lot did you spend for that camera?)

Did I get u proper? You mentioned uploading JVC miniDV tape footage to ur Mac and the vcam doesn’t have a DV/firewire port.

If your pc has a firewire port that is a four pin then yes. Most most likely your laptop or computer either has a six pin (much more normal) or no firewire port. In that case, you would want to buy a Firewire card that supports 4 pin connection or get a 4 pin to 6 pin cord. You can find low cost cards and adapters on http://www.newegg.com .
