I bought the Macbook Pro for the firewire port so I could download video from my Sony MiniDV camcorder (DCR-HC52) and purchased the updated 4-9 pin firewire cable. My Mac nonetheless doesn’t understand that I ever plugged anything in. I am getting so frustrated! I have heard that Sony Camcorders just won’t work with Macs but I was hoping an individual out there had a remedy. PLEASE Assist!

I am employing iMovie – When I go to Import, it only enables me into the constructed in webcam to capture video. I try to import through Finder and it does not even display the firewire port as having the camera on it, it is like I never plugged it in.
Yes, the camcorder is in “Play/Edit” mode. Tried in just in the mode and also whilst in playback.
Is the Firewire port active on the Mac? Yes, the port is active (by means of “about this mac/far more info”), but when in Program preferences it says “No network capable FireWire devices are linked.”
I checked the post, but it appears like it assumes you are in a position to import, but not edit, am I reading the write-up incorrect?
Would you consider my firewire cable is bad or perhaps the port? How can I go about testing this out with out acquiring one more $ 30 cable?
Paul, it makes use of a miniDV tape, not an SD card, and I have card readers that operate just fine, just getting difficulties with my Sony Camcorder………
Will I have to get a new camcorder since of this issue? How do I get all of my old footage off the tapes?

Instead of purchasing one more cable could you get a SD card reader which functions with Macs!
